This fascinating mineral is ethically mined in Congo. It derives it’s name from the Greek words ‘mallow green stone’ due to its resemblance to the Mallow plant. Used for centuries the first known Malachite mines were in Egypt and Israel over 4000 years ago. It was mined to produce Copper, pigments for painting and cut into gemstones for jewellery. 
 
In Ancient Egypt the colour green was associated with death and the power of resurrection as well as new life and fertility. They believed that the afterlife contained an eternal paradise referred to as the ‘Field of Malachite’ which resembled their lives but with no pain or suffering.
 
Malachite is said to aid with sleep and balance, and is often called the ‘stone of transformation, used for deep energy cleaning, bringing healing and positive transformation into your home
